Purdue research finds a clue in the multiple sclerosis puzzle

Last Friday morning, physical therapist Carol Krueger-Brophy helped Sandra Borders inch across the room. Borders held tightly to her walker and with every step, she tried to regain her ability to walk.

"I want to walk again," she said. "I want to be independent again. For me, the lost of independence was just devastating."

Borders' independence was stripped from her after a recent attack from multiple sclerosis, a debilitating disease where the body's immune system nibbles away at the protective sheath surrounding the nerves.
