Blue Badge Disabled Parking Scheme Changes

Owned by the Department for Transport (DfT) and managed in Surrey by Surrey County Council, there will be some updates and changes to the system in January 2012.

The main changes are:

The fee will increase from £2 to £10 per badge from 1st January 2012 (this is the first fee increase in nearly thirty years).
The badge will have a new design which will be printed on a plastic type card.

This will make it harder to copy, forge or alter.

Blue Badges will be distributed from a central print house rather than directly from Surrey County Council and a central UK database of blue badge holder will be held by the DfT.

There will also be an on-line application facility, which should help enable quick
turnaround for people who are renewing their blue badge whose circumstances
have not changed. There will be one standard on-line application form.
Severely disabled service personnel and veterans will get continuous automatic
entitlement to a badge if they receive specific tariffs of the new Armed Forces
Compensation Scheme and have a permanent mobility-related disability.

There are some questions and answers available to view here.

The guidance notes for local authorities will be updated soon and these will also
be available for any member of the public to view.

Further information is also available on the Surrey County Council website and If
you have any questions you can use the feedback button if you wish to email
further questions.
