Cambridge University-developed MS drug approved by watchdog

A new drug for treating multiple sclerosis, developed by Cambridge University research, has been approved for use by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

The drug Lemtrada can reduce the effects of the disease and can, in certain cases, enable some recovery.  Read more here.

Interesting remyelination results in stem cell study

New results have emerged from research into stem cell transplantation in mice, suggesting that injected human stem cells could stimulate remyelination and help to reduce inflammation in the spinal cord.  Read on.

Multiple sclerosis discovery may explain gender gap

A key difference in the brains of male and female MS patients may explain why more women than men get the disease, a study suggests.

Scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in the US found higher levels of protein S1PR2 in tests on the brains of female mice and dead women with MS than in male equivalents. For more click here!

The NHS belongs to the people: a call to action

NHS England is calling on patients, the public and staff to join in a discussion about the future of the NHS, so it can plan how best to deliver services, now and in the years ahead

Following our public NHS Call to Action event held in Reading on April 29th 2014, we are now able to offer the public survey online.

The survey relates to two videos entitiled Hospital at Home and Urgent Care, and asks for your opinion on both of these services. A copy of the presentation shown at the event is also available to view.

Harnessing the power of the patient movement more effectively: a May 2014 PatientView study

The survey hopes to quantify the impact of the patient movement, and identify areas where progress could be made. The survey will map the typical (and non-typical) activities of patient groups in various countries, and across a number of disease specialties. Countries and disease specialties will be compared in the study results.  For more click here.
