Tooth Bus - Bringing NHS dentistry to your door!

The Tooth Bus is a brand new service, commissioned by SHIP (Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth), Berkshire and Oxfordshire NHS primary care trusts, to provide Oral Health Education and to give those who have not seen a dentist in the last 2 years the opportunity to have a FREE dental examination. The aim is to encourage more people to register with a dentist, and improve access to NHS dentistry.

Winchester-based Iosis Dental Clinic has been commissioned to provide this service using a Mobile Dental Unit, which will travel around to different locations in each county. Locations may include easily accessible sites such as shopping centres and supermarkets, as well as more targeted sites like community support groups and projects.

We are encouraging local businesses/community projects in each area to support this excellent service by providing a parking location in their car parks. A detailed Operation Plan is available on request, which gives more information regarding the size and specifics of the vehicle. We can be in any location for a period of one day up to six days, depending on the need of the local area/target group.

The service will be in Berkshire from 20^th Aug 2012 for 12 weeks, and we therefore need any proposed sites by no later than Friday 29^th June.

People with MS have a lower overall risk of cancer

Research published in the journal Brain has found that people with MS are less likely to develop certain cancers particularly colorectal cancer, but also brain and bladder cancer.  Read more here.

Solar Panels

We are delgihted to announce that our Solar PV System has now been installed and we are generating our own electricity and feeding power into the Grid! 

We are now investigating a Solar Thermal system to heat our water and further reduce our energy consumption and costs.

Carpet of Vinyl flooring??!!

BMSTC has been very fortunate and honored to receive a legacy from a former member.  We are looking at the best way to use the money to benefit our members for the longer term, and we hope to undertake some some refurbishment of the Centre.

One of the biggest decisions is replacing the flooring in the reception/social area with either carpet or hard flooring, and we invite your comments and feedback regarding this matter.  There are questionnaires available at the centre or by emailing pippa@bmstc.org which will help us to make the best decision we can based on our members feedback.

Boars Bridge Festival success!

Thank you to everyone who came along to support, volunteer or perform at this years Boars Bridge Festival.  We would like to say a very big THANK YOU to festival organiser, Lynne Whiteland, for choosing BMSTC to benefit for the third consecutive year and for making it such a fun weekend, despite the rather inclement weather conditions!!  The final amount raised will be announced shortly, but we are hoping it will be in the region of £3,000!

The Olympic Torch relay route will be taking the same path through Henley in the final mile of the Walking for MileS Half Marathon on September 9th

The Olympic Torch relay route will be taking the same path through Henley in the final mile of the Walking for MileS Half Marathon on September 9th.

 The Torch will arrive in Northfield End having travelled early in the morning from Walli...ngford, Crowmarsh Gifford and Nettlebed. Starting at just after 9am on July 10th the torch will be carried by Torchbearers along New Street and Thameside to The River and Rowing Museum, on Mill Meadows.

From the Museum it will be transported by rowing boat crewed with members from various local rowing clubs and Sir Steve Redgrave along the Thames to Leander Club. The Flame and crew will pass Phyllis Court and paddle over a small part of the historic 1908 & 1948 Olympic rowing course. From Leander the Torch will be transferred back onto the bus and is scheduled to leave Henley just before 10am.

The museum is the venue for all the Walking for MileS event taking place on Sunday, September 9th and although we cannot promise you the Olympic Torch, or Sir Steve Redgrave, we can offer you a great day out and some fantastic scenery with a half price entry into the museum after your challenge.
