Our annual Walking for MileS event will take place this year on Sunday 21st September starting from the River & Rowing Museum, Henley-on-Thames.

Walks include:

Marsh Lock Wheelchair Friendly 1.5 miles
Six Mile Stroll - You guessed it....6 miles!
The Half Marathon 13.1 miles approx.

BMSTC 30th Anniversary, 20th August 2014!

BMSTC will be celebrating 30 years of service for the local MS community.  We will be hosting an celebratory afternoon tea on Wednesday 20th August from 1.00pm to 4.00pm.  There will be some special guests attending to help us mark the occasion.

Please RSVP asap to pippa@bmstc.org if you would like to attend as we are limited by the number of guests we can cater for.  Invitations are on a first come first served basis.  Please note the centre will be closed for therapies on this day.

Reading resurfacing work - You might want to check your journey to BMSTC

A £1 million project to resurface main roads across Reading is set to begin next Monday.
Some 53,000 square metres is being renewed on 19 main roads this year.
The work has been timed to coincide as near as possible to the school summer holidays and the project is expected to last seven weeks, weather permitting.  Read more here

Experimental new personal health and social care budget planned in England

 The Integrated Personal Commissioning (IPC) programme will create individualised budgets for people with long term conditions, who will be able to direct how and where the money is spent. Funding for the individualised budgets will come from NHS England, Clinical Commissioning Groups and local authorities. Access to GPs and hospital care would still be free at the point of use.  Read on.

Boars Bridge Festival raises a record £5,900!

Pip was delighted to attend the cheque presentation last week at the Windmill Acoustic Music Club to recieve a cheque for £5,900! Wow!!

Government in court over PIP changes

Court proceedings will begin in today to determine whether the Government’s decision to change the eligibility criteria for the disability benefit Personal Independence Payment (PIP) was unlawful.  Read on.

MS pill Tecfidera available on NHS in England and Wales

The new MS pill Tecfidera (also known as dimethyl fumarate) has received the final stamp of approval from NICE, and should now be freely available on the NHS in England and Wales to people with active relapsing remitting MS.  Read on.

A multiple sclerosis patient from Hampshire has joined a round the world sailing challenge.

Dentist Phil Gowers will be on board the Oceans of Hope, a yacht crewed entirely by people living with MS.
The voyage started in Denmark and is due to arrive in Portsmouth on Thursday.  Watch here.
